Income requirements for renting an apartment in Houston

Most apartments have an income requirement in order to rent there. The majority of them require 3X the rent in gross monthly income. There are some that are 2 or 2.5 X and there are a few here and there that require 3.5 but you can usually prepare to need 3X the rent in income to rent an apartment in Houston. You will have to prove that income. You either have to show them check stubs, bank statements or tax returns. Occasionally I have people tell me, "but I can afford the rent". I believe them but that's not the issue because whether you can or not you have to meet the requirements of the property or they will deny your application. Also, in addition to your check stubs, most landlords will call to verbally verify your employment. If you're relocating from another city or state, most landlords will require you to have a job or other verifiable source of income prior to leasing.  If you receive income from sources such as social security, child support, or any kind of settlement  they will require some additional documentation. So before you start looking to lease an apartment make sure to have your paperwork in order which will make the process as smooth as possible.
